Dog Treat Review: Brothers Complete

Today I’ll be doing a review on Brothers Complete Dog Biscuits. They sent me 4 bags of their biscuits in different flavours; We received Turkey, Lamb, Chicken, and Venison dog biscuits.

We cannot thank them enough for sending us these treats to try out and review. Kai (my german shepherd) and Wrangler (my Australian shepherd) went crazy for these as soon as I brought the box inside. I of course let Evee (my Italian greyhound/chihuahua mix) try some as well and she loves them too!

We love these treats for so many reasons:

šŸ”¹Made in the USA

šŸ”¹Brothers Complete is FREE of ingredients containing GMO, Grains, Sugar, Hormones, Antibiotic, Potato, Chemical Preservative

šŸ”¹You get many dozen treats per bag

The treats are so natural that they are great for any dog!

These treats are extremely healthy for your dog as they are HIGH protein.

In every 1 pound bag there are an estimated 90-100 treats which is so so great! One last perk? They are crunchy, wholesome, and nutritionally balanced.

Rated: 10/10

Kai balancing them on her paws, she wanted to devour them but she’s training to learn patience which is her WAIT command.

DIY Dog Toothpaste + Reasons to brush themĀ

So many of you know the importance of teeth care for yourself, but what about for your furry friends?
How often should you brush your dogs teeth? Daily should be your goal but it’s something you’ll work up to. Even if your dog has good teeth, minimal to no plaque build up brushing up to 3 days a week can be very helpful.
How much will I save by brushing my dogs teeth myself instead of constantly getting it done at the vet? The answer to this is tough but personally each dental visit costs me around $200-$300 per dog per visit and I let the vet do it 1-2 times a year. Brushing my dogs teeth myself has shown great improvement with less plaque build-up. Of course some vets can cost less while others can cost more.
Now for the DIY Dog Toothpaste

  • 2 TBSP baking sodaĀ (I buy extra as I make this toothpaste often with 3 dogs but I also use it for other items or keeping food in my fridge fresh)
  • 2 TSP coconut oil
  • 1/2 TSP kosher salt
  • 2 TSP water
  • 3-4 springs fresh parsley
  • 2-3 leaves fresh peppermint or 2 drops peppermint essential oil

You’ll need a food processor and if you don’t have one, I recommend this food processorĀ

  1. Combine the ingredient all together into a food processor. Process it until it is well mixed and blended. Add water if you feel it needs a bit more. Mixture should be gritty and a little more wet than the typical human Toothpaste.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a container that has an airtight seal or tight fitting lid to it.
  3. Store it in the refrigerator up to 3 weeks after it is made.
  4. To use: apply a generous amount of Toothpaste to a wet brush or cloth. Rub this on the outside of the tooth and inside and get t up to the gum line. Note that this is usually easier said than actually done so be patient with your dog. Try holding your dog under your arm while they are calm and face the same direction as them. If needed, get an assistant (friend or family member) to help you out.

Easy 3 Ingredient Dog TreatsĀ

Ever since I found out my dog has certain food allergies I totally love making my own treats. I have 3 dogs who are constantly spoiled and getting lots of treats so I’m always buying them but love making them as well.
This is a super easy DIY dog treat with only 3 ingredients that are usually in your house already.

My dogs love, I mean LOVE peanut butter. They go crazy for it. They are also always trying to get to my bananas so I thought I should totally make them some treats.

The first thing I did was take some oats (original/plain oatmeal) and ground it up. I used a blender but you can use a food processor as well. Next you beat the banana (large) and peanut butter in a bowl until smooth. I left the banana with a few chunks in it but they definitely are better if completely smooth.

Then you need to roll out the dough so you can use cookie cutters to put them on a tray to bake. I decided to use silicone moulds as they are simply easier to keep the treat whole (I also didn’t have any cute dog related cookie cutters).

  • 1-1 1/2 c. oats
  • 1/2 c. peanut butter
  • 1 large banana

  1. Preheat oven to 350*F
  2. Grind your oats to a powder using a blender or food processor
  3. In a bowl, beat the banana and peanut butter until smooth. The dough should then stick together without being super sticky.
  4. Sprinkle the powdered oats on your counter/workspace. Keep the dough about 1/4 thick once rolled out.
  5. Cut the dough to your desired shapes. I used a silicone mold shaped to paw prints
  6. Place the dough onto parchment paper which is on your baking pan.
  7. Bake the treats for about 13-16 minutes or until the edges start to turn a golden brown.
  8. Cool completely prior to placing them into an airtight container.

Yields around 12-20 depending on shape and actual thickness.

Make your own? I would love to see photos and hear how yours turn out.

10 Places to visit with your dog in 2017

10 Great places to visit in 2017 with your dog! I’ve done some research and talked to friends about places they’ve gone with their dogs and the great perks of each one. Here is my list of ten places to visit with your dog this year.

1. Sedona, Arizona

Perfect for hiking. Don’t like hiking? No worries. They have plenty of shopping, dining, and biking places where you can bring your dog. El Portal Sedona Hotel is the perfect pet friendly hotel. The hotel is fully built with pets in mind.

2. Canine Camp Getaway – Lake George, NY

This place is basically the perfect summer camp for your furry friend and you. They have anywhere from 4-7 daily activities for you and your dog to enjoy together. Not only this but they also have dog friendly swimming pools, dog friendly areas for dining, a bar where they host yappy hour, and more. It’s simply perfect for you and your dog to hang or and spend plenty of time.

3. Algiers Beach – Sanibel Island, FL

This is a beach right near a nature trail. Although dogs are required to be on a leash it is still a great and fun place for your pup to adventure and play. This is a clean beach and usually always has friendly people with their pups enjoying the beach and fun. Be prepared though to pay to park there from 7am until 7pm but after 7pm parking is free.

4. Cross Seminole Trail – Oviedo, FL

Here is great place to visit near the Orlando, FL area. It’s a trail that is right there on the path of old railroads. It’s supported by a non-profit, Rails-To-Trails Conservancy.

5. Bend Ale Trail – Bend, OR

As this city is a high desert area, you get nearly a full year, yes you read that right, nearly a FULL YEAR of sunshine. This being said, it’s the perfect place for hiking with your pup. A great trail is Bend Ale Trail which is about 500 miles of streams and rivers. You can grab a canoe and explore the lakes with your dog. The hotel is even dog friendly which makes it great for relaxing after a long day outdoors.

6. Trio Carmel – Carmel, CA

This city is beautiful and wonderful and on top of that, it’s dog friendly. It’s a perfect little village for walking around outside. Early September brings a sand castle contest which is held annually. This event has been going on for over 50 years. After a day soaking in the sun and scenery be sure to stop by Trio Carmel with your pup to enjoy some wine and other great things and enjoy looking at an art gallery as well.

7. Pitt Street Railroad Bridge – Mt. Pleasant, SC

This is a gorgeous city and area with planted palm trees and grass where you’ll love walking your dog and your dog will be happy you rough them there for a lovely walk. It’s a beautiful sight to stay and watch the sunset as well. It’s an area that also has a water foundation for not only humans but also dogs. It’s totally a must do while visiting the Charleston area.

8. Glacier Peak – Washington

This is a beautiful place to hike. It’s home to Washington’s most active volcano but you won’t regret this hike. It has beautiful sights so be sure to bring a camera (or even a phone that’s fully charged) for the gorgeous views you’ll see. Planning to do the entire hike? Bring a hammock that you can set up for you and your pup to share. It’s about a 32 mile hike round trip so your pup will most likely need a break every now and again unless you’re an avid hiker with them. This totally isn’t for everyone but it’s truly gorgeous if you love adventuring.

9. Great Sand Dunes National Park – Colorado

These are the tallest sand dunes in North America. I’ll first off say, you’ll dog will love this open area of sand to run and play in. During the summer he sure to keep your pet on the wet, moist sand near the Medano Creek so they don’t burn their paws on the 150*F sand. Or pack them some shoes for extra protection from the heat. It’s also best to access the dunes in the early morning or in the evenings to avoid the heat as well. I will add that I do believe pets are required to stay on leash though to respect wildlife and other people visiting the sand dunes.

10. Red Rock Canyon – Las Vegas, NV

This lovely national conservation area is less than 30 minutes (half an hour) away from the Las Vegas strip. Pets are allowed on the trails by should be kept on leash. It’s beautiful but can get hot so be sure to pack plenty of water for your dog and never leave them alone, unsupervised.
I hope you enjoyed this list of 10 places to visit in 2017 with your dog. If you’ve been to any of these places be sure to let me know if you loved it there with your dog.

Do you know of other great places that are dog friendly? What should I add to my own list of places to visit with my dogs?
The photos in this post don’t belong to me.

New Leash at Kai’s Ruff Wear

So I’m always looking out for the best interest in dogs. Highly quality gear is a MUST as well as it being stylish and customisable.

Have you ever been walking your pup in an area and don’t mind him being a few feet ahead but still you are in control? How about your pup turns the corner and the street is SUPER busy. Your pup wants to pull in different directions and simply run.  He knows he shouldn’t but he tries. All of a sudden you have no control or less of it and you need him back by your side. Well this new radical leash is perfect for you.

It features two, yes two handles. One at normal length and one that can quickly get or keep your pup by your side.

It’s pretty and soft and you can change the colours of the rope. They have plenty of options.

Another BONUS?  They help shelters and rescues. They donate 10% of earnings from sales to animal shelters and rescues.

New Leashes by Kai’s Ruff WearĀ

Take a sneak peak into two new leashes now being offered by Kai’s Ruff Wear.
One is a red, white, and blue striped which is patriotic for America but also other countries as well.

It’s simple but gorgeous all the same. Strong and durable for small or large dogs. The cotton is soft to the touch and won’t cause harm to your dog’s fur.
Kai’s Ruff Wear has another NEW leash called the Midnight Party. It is black with coloured tinsel throughout and is still soft to the touch.

It’s beautiful and perfect year round. Good to bring in the New Year as well as July 4th. As it looks like fireworks in the night sky.
Let’s get your pups festive!
Need another reason to purchase?
They help support non-profit animal shelters and rescues. So you in a way are also helping them. They donate a portion of their profits to the shelter. Each month is a different one. Busier months and they may help out TWO shelters/rescues. It’s so amazing.
Want a custom leash? Collar? Just ask and they can certainly make you something you’ll love.

Dog Tag Art!Ā

Today I’ll be reviewing a fantastic company that creates super cool and creative dog tags. They can be a design they have made or you can upload and create a design you made and it can be out on the dog tag! How cool is that?!

This company is Dog Tag Art (@dogtagart on Instagram). Go check them out

Below are the 4 designs I picked out for my pups. I did indeed pick sports teams but they have plenty of other options and ideas!

The Pet ID Connector is super amazing and easy to use. Makes putting it on a collar a breeze! They provided some different colour options too.

Plus they have a glow in the dark Tag silencer that goes around the collar. No noise so when dogs play and run around you don’t get bothered by a clink sound.

Here is Kai my German Shepherd with her shepherd tag! It stands it nicely on her darker fur, I LOVE it!

Here is Wrangler sporting lots of matching Michigan gear. But you can see how cool the tag is here too.

These are AMAZING QUALITY and I highly recommend them to anyone with a dog!
